Nine questions before you accept speaking gig

I had a conversation with a friend this weekend about what questions we ask if accept speaking invitations and it invaded this is the way I should blog for two basic thing - I have one to share some advice and two, I'm sure someone will have to provide advice to me. Win-win.

1. I want to speak? Is the first question you should ask yourself that I want to be a speaker? Sure, there are to talk about some great benefits and real reasons to do it. But do you want? Would you write?Or do something else? talking is time consuming and hard work to may your time and energy set elsewhere.

2. Will I talk about this topic? It seems obvious, but it is particularly important when starting, it can be very exciting to get your first invitation or offer. Not only should you are comfortable with the topic, but it's something you want to be known for talking.

3. Have I time? You have the time together and go a great presentation? is there enough time between accept and deliver?Busy as your schedule? Is this how you want to spend time?

4. What are my charges?I am ready, free talk? If you have submitted to a Conference should know whether talk registration (exempt computers in libraries and Internet Librarian) or not (ALA and the most State Conference) .If someone you about talk approaches you can offer you a set fee, you may want to talk for free, or you may want to tell you what are your fees, be prepared.

5. What is the expected size of the audience? There is a big difference between an audience of 20 and 200, is the feeling of the rooms and the ways and means to you and probably your slides sprechen.Sind you comfortable with the size of the audience?

6 Will be recorded the speech? If so where it be archived is and will be publicly available? are you ok with this?

7. What is this?Find 4 referred to in paragraph

8. Is there a cost for participants? You are ready for free to talk when there is a cost for participants? you would be rather your speeches available?

9. Who is the target audience? What kind of librarians, what is your background, focus, expertise? if it not librarian, who is the audience is?
